>The story of Rose and Mike Harn being asked to leave a MADD booth because the sight of Rose was too offensive has me pretty torn. My first thought was “I hope she wants this.” I mean, he says she has limited communication, but can anyone else understand it? It would make me feel a whole lot less torn about things if she could type her responses out and a synthesized voice spoke. Then, you would know she wants to put herself on display like this. If she does, then she should have the right to do it. She’s a very powerful reminder of what can happen when you don’t take care when driving a 2-ton potential steel weapon.
If she does want to come out to these events, then what kind of a statement is it to say that you don’t want to see her? Does MADD only want to show the desirable victims of drunk driving? Is it easier to look at a guy who has a few broken limbs, or someone whose family is dead and can’t be seen? If that’s the case, then that’s pretty sad. It seems not even MADD wants to face all aspects of the reality of drunk driving.
