Ok, I’m going to add my voice to the small group of them that I’ve found while googling for this. They all say similar things. It’s kinda creepy.
Every now and then, I catch myself saying “You can do it, Duffy Moon!” to Steve while he’s trying to get something to work, at which point, he asks who the hell Duffy Moon is, and I exclaim “You don’t know?” and he says, “Uh, no. I think I’d remember a geeky name like Duffy Moon. Who the hell would name their kid Duffy Moon? You’re telling me Duffy Moon is a boy?” And I say yes, Duffy Moon is a boy.
there was this video that I watched in school. I have learned that it was an ABC Afterschool Special and it was called “the Amazing Cosmic Awareness of Duffy Moon.” It was supposed to be inspirational. I think the message was if you put your mind to it, you can do anything. Every time Duffy Moon, who I’ve learned through my googling was a shorter, wimpier-looking boy, really wanted to do something hard, he would puff out his cheeks and a voice would say in a sing-songy way, “You can do it, Duffy Moon!” I never really got inspired by the video, I was only inspired to make fun of it. but I guess the “You can do it, Duffy Moon!” chant stuck with me more than I thought.
I was starting to question whether I was remembering it correctly, because every time I would whip out the “You can do it, Duffy Moon!” sentence, people I said it to would stare at me as if I had just spoken in some incomprehensible foreign tongue.
I started to google to see what would happen, and I found out that I am in fact not crazy. Lots of other people have had carbon copies of the same conversation that I’ve had with Steve and others. Lots of other people were either inspired by the movie, or thought Duffy Moon was a big loser and they liked to laugh at the way he puffed out his cheeks. There was no middle ground. Either he was awesome, or he was a dork.
but what I can’t find is a copy of the movie! I can’t find it on YouTube, I can’t find it on Daily Motion, I can’t find it anywhere. what the hell? There are copies of all kinds of old movies. How come this one isn’t up anywhere?
so, is there anyone here who has had similar Duffy Moon experiences? Does anyone know where I can find this video so I can show it to Steve and everyone else who thinks I’m on crack? duffy Moon needs to come out of secrecy!
