Voting At Returning Offices: You Only Have Until Tomorrow

Last Updated on: 18th February 2015, 03:57 pm

A while ago, when I found out I could vote at the returning office, I thought you could vote every day right up to May 2. I have since discovered I was wrong.

I got this feeling in my gut that I should check and make sure I could vote any day, so called Elections Canada. The first people told me I could only vote up until today. But the local returning office set me straight. I have until tomorrow.

Sheesh, it’s a good thing I didn’t wait until, say, after the all candidates meeting at Action Read on Thursday, to cast my vote. I still could have gone down on election day, but two blind folks walking into a chaotic polling station on election day is a recipe for grrr.

So, tomorrow probably, we’ll walk down to the friendly neighbourhood returning office, fill out the forms, and mark our x, or we hope we can mark our x, since federal elections don’t have the audio voting stuff so we have to rely on nothing moving accidentally while we’re lining up to mark our x, but that’s a whole other post. But it’s a really good thing I checked that whole returning office voting deal. That would have been very very bad times.
