So Long Uncle Mike, You’ll Be Missed

Man, I’m in the midst of all sorts of chaos, but I have to write this down.

I just found out on Tuesday that my uncle passed away. It was totally unexpected. He had been dealing with cancer, but that was under control. Then, suddenly he got a blood clot, and…wammo! Now he’s gone, and everybody’s kind of left with their mouths hanging open. He was only 57.

He was definitely a quirky guy with a funky sense of humour. Whenever Steve would come to our family gatherings, he and my uncle would get talking. Family stuff isn’t going to be the same anymore. My poor cousin’s only 19 and she lost her dad.

You know, it’s good that we had that family reunion back in June. At least we all saw each other one last time. Now we have to get used to the fact that he’s gone. What a total shock.

      1. I hate to even bring this up, but I hope we’re not in the middle of one of those bad things come in threes situations. All the stuff with the dog, now your uncle…don’t let there be anything else. You’re going through more than enough as it is.

  1. I’m going to miss him. He was a neat dude. It’ll suck going to your family things and not ending up in a corner talking about concerts and music and swapping whacky stories about my dad since they had a mutual friend. It won’t be the same for sure.

  2. Have had this song in my head since yesterday. I thought it was awesome that they included it in the big slideshow they made about his life. Whenever we’d talk about music, John Prine would always come up. He loved John Prine. I don’t and could never hope to know as much about John Prine as he did, but I always liked this song. Hadn’t given it a thought in years and years and almost chuckled out loud when it started playing. It’s just so Mike. It’s light and fun, but also thoughtful and a bit serious at the same time.

Really going to miss seeing him around. Song will always make me a little sad now, but it’s still a good one.
