A Trixter Update

Another guest post, this time from Brother Brad who wrote in to let everyone know how Trixie is doing.

It has been a while since I wrote about everyone’s favourite retired guide dog, Trixie. Rest assured, I sincerely apologize for this great injustice, and will now grace you with such a post.

It is hard to believe that it is already over a year that I adopted Trixie. Time sure does fly by. When I got her last October, I was busy with college, and wasn’t totally sure if I had the time to give her. Fortunately, I am one of those people who get up early, so we got a walk in around six: 30 until about quarter after seven. Then I’d go home, have breakfast and take Trix over to my neighbour’s place, where she stayed for the day. When I got home after five, I’d go pick her up, feed her and me, then we’d hit the road, or the trails, weather depending, for another walk, usually an hour or so if we could.
Fast forward 9 months. I have finished college, and am hunting for a job that I can actually live on, so have a lot more time to walk and do the things that someone with a pet should do. I am happy to report that Trix is doing very well.
We went to the vet last Monday for her annual all-point inspection, and she was declared a fine physical specimen. According to the vet, she weighs in at a healthy 56.2 pounds, has nice teeth, clean ears, a nice coat, and is completely sound in the body. I was quite pleased when he said it wasn’t very often a lab of her age came in in such great shape. I imagine the daily 5 to seven KM walks and runs through the bush near the river help with this.
It is really nice that the trivial ailments she once had are all but a distant memory now. It is truly amazing what stress can do to an animal: kidney infections, itchy dry skin, and complete lack of energy…

So, there it is. Not much to report, but it is an update. If I left anything out, feel free to spam email Steve and Carin with questions and complaints. They like that sort of thing.
