Help The Shoe Thief Win His Wedding. Yes, I Said Wedding!

Our old pal the Shoe Thief asked if I could do him a favour, and who am I to say no to that guy?

I don’t think we’ve mentioned it before here, but as of last summer, he’s engaged! To a girl! And she’s real! They haven’t set a date yet, but here’s where we can all maybe help that part along a touch.

They’ve entered a contest to win a $20,000 dream wedding, but to do that, they need votes. Votes from nice people like you. Hell, they’ll take votes from arseholes too, because every little bit helps. Their story has been picked as one of the five finalists, which is awesome. And now they have until Sunday to try to round up enough votes to take the whole thing. If you’d like to give them your support, here’s the contest page. Their entry is the one about love being blind. Don’t shoot the messenger, you guys.

A couple of those other stories are pretty hard not to vote for, but you have my word (if for some reason that means something to you) that Marty and Lisa are good people who could really use and would very much appreciate the help.

Thanks to anyone who votes, and good luck, you two! If you win, it’ll be the fanciest wedding I’ve ever been in. I am still in it, right?

  1. Thanks for thinking of putting this up. I should have. *headslap*. It only lets each person vote *once* total, not once per day or anything like that, right? I really want him to win!

    1. It’s once total. I know this because I had to use some trickery to be able to vote using your computer since you already had. I tried to vote with my phone, but the I do or don’t want to receive updates from you or your trusted partners buttons wouldn’t check. The I have read and understand ones were fine, but these ones weren’t, and since they were mandatory it meant I wasn’t able to read the stories and vote. But I won, because that’s what I do now and then.

And I can’t take all the credit for thinking to put it up. I had thought about it, but then he wrote me again and asked if I would before I got to it.

    1. I answered as much of this as possible on Twitter, but if anyone has any insight as to why the link to the stories won’t click in Voiceover for her, we’d love to hear it.

  2. It was my fault. I had been on Amazon earlier and it flips out if java script is on so I had turned it off. Forgot to turn it back on. That did the trick so I’m all voted now.

  3. I’m hoping this won’t be forever. It’s a recent thing since I upgraded the OS so my fingers are crossed that it’ll get fixed. Pain in the rear turning java script off every time I need to visit Amazon.

Did you hear that Window Eyes is giving free copies with a purchase of Office? I know of a lot of people who were considering switching to Mac but hearing that, they are pausing. Not trying to disuade you from getting a Mac, just wanted to make sure you knew about that. And apparently it’ll be free forever, even with upgrades and such.

      1. Maybe that includes Ontario, California? Hahahaha.

And I think the part that’s only open to Ontario residents is the contest itself. Anyone from anywhere can vote I believe, but you have to be from around here to enter.

    1. I did hear about that. I even wrote a post about it after the announcement. It’s a pretty amazing turn of events. You knew somebody had to eventually react to the market pressure, but this seemed to come straight out of the blue.

Before this I was already considering getting Window-Eyes for the new compy if I stuck to Windows, but now it’s a total no-brainer. But I’m thinking fairly seriously about a Mac, and then running Windows on it with some sort of virtual machine for times when I need Windows.

    1. Uh-oh. Somebody made a booboo. Hope it wasn’t Marty. Haha. I’ll have to toss him an email and see if he’s heard the results yet. I should have plenty of time what with all this waiting on hold I’m doing. I’m over the hour mark. Roar and stuff.

  4. I heard from Marty. The contest is closed, but he hasn’t seen the results published anywhere yet. He’s pretty sure that he didn’t win though since he never got a call. Thanks to everyone who voted for him, he appreciates it. If he finds out who did win, I’ll let you know.
