The other day when I was posting different versions of Jolene, someone tweeted to tell me that paula Cole had also done one, a fact of which I had been unaware.
I’m not sure if that’s the version she was thinking of, but it was the first one I found so we’ll go with it.
It’s not bad at all, aside from that thing she does in a couple of spots. You’ll know it as soon as you hear it. What is it supposed to be? I’m guessing the intent is some sort of expression of anger or frustration, but it sounds like either somebody kicked her in the stomach or she’s struggling with a difficult dump. Whatever it is it’s rather distracting, which is a shame because I kind of dig it otherwise.
