Max Keeping Is Gone

Wow, I’m full of downers tonight.

I think we all have people in our lives that we never imagine not being there. They just…are part of your life, life wouldn’t be the same without them. There are people like your grandparents and parents. You know, logically, that eventually we all are going to die, but you can’t imagine it being possible to not have these people.

And, to a lesser extent, I think we get used to seeing people being on the TV news, especially when they’ve been there for years. That’s the case for me, with Max Keeping. When I was a kid, he was the news guy. I can’t remember a time when he wasn’t the 6 o’clock news guy.

Then I moved away, and he retired, so it wasn’t noticeable that he wasn’t doing the news anymore. But now I have learned that he has died, and it feels weird.

He was the guy who always talked about the news. It’s hard to believe that that voice is no longer with us.

In reading his obituary, I realize just how much work he did for charity. I remember noticing a few things, but I think I may have been kind of oblivious.

I really don’t have a lot to say except wow, I feel kind of old. It’s sad to see a long-time voice go like that. Now, when Lloyd Robertson goes, that’ll be really really weird.
