No, Elizabeth Wettlaufer Is Not Related To Steve

Since several people have asked me and my brother and sister say they’ve been getting the same question, I thought maybe I should put this out there. As far as we know, we are not related to Elizabeth Tracey Mae Wettlaufer, the nurse accused of murdering eight nursing home patients in Woodstock and London.

I understand why people are asking. I grew up in the area and don’t live all that far away from it now, so it’s sensible to think that I’d have family there. But one thing to keep in mind is that around here, Wettlaufer is a fairly common name. I’ve met loads of them, and almost none have been relatives. I’ve even run across a couple of Steve Wettlaufers that had no connection to my family whatsoever, which is an odd thing to get your head around when you’re a kid, by the way. It’s not as common a name as Smith, but that’s the best comparison I can think of.

So thanks everyone for your concern, but my family is ok. And I hope that in time, those who are related to her and to the victims of this awful crime will be too.

  1. I feel sorry for anyone who ends up in the Wettlaufer wing of Woodstock hospital. I remember my grandma was in there a few years ago. But on the bright side, she did make it out of that wing, hahah.
