In My Day, There Was No Such Thing As A Millennial…

Whenever I hear about millennials, I kind of raise my eyebrows, knowing that some of them are close to my age. I can’t imagine that these people that aren’t that much younger than me could be so different. Well, it appears that they aren’t that much different, at least the older half of them.

I could never figure out why, with a snap of a finger, we had a whole new type of people. Finally, something has explained what may have made the change, and why the younger millennials do fit into the description we hear about, and it kind of makes sense.

Yeesh. I wonder what the next clump of kids will be like and what they’ll be called.

  1. I can’t decide if this needs its own post or not, so for now I’ll plunk it here.

Since everything needs a label on it, there’s a bit of a movement afoot to define what would basically be these old millennials with a splash of folks my and Carin’s age thrown in because that kind of makes sense. They want to call anyone born between 1977 and 1983 a Xennial, a combination of Generation X and a Millennial. I say it makes sense because in some ways young Gen X people don’t relate to the older ones in the same way that young and old Millennials can’t really be lumped together, but do we need this? Did we have this much attempted definition of generations before now? I know there have always been generation gaps, but did anyone care or at least pretend to care this much about it back in the day?
