An Appropriate Song for This Christmas

I have mentioned Mom’s favourite Roger Whittaker Christmas album before in the context of making fun of the stupid song on it. But there’s another song that’s on that album that’s been going through my head ever since it became apparent that we were staying here for Christmas.

Christmas is here again.
Stand up and cheer again.
Let’s leave our heart aches and sorrows behind.
All that I want is to be here beside you.
All that I need is right here in my arms.
All that I want is to know that you love me
And this will be my finest Christmas time.
Holly and mistletoe, small faces all a glow.
Stockings for Santa to fill with his toys.
Bright shining Christmas trees,
Small people on there knees.
Tell Santa, they have been good girls and boys.
All that I want is to be here beside you.
All that I need is right here in my arms.
All that I want is to know that you love me
And this will be my finest Christmas time.
Grownups in paper hats, turkey and brandy Snaps,
Chestnuts to roast in the coals of a fire.
The joy of giving things – the blessings Christmas brings.
Just to be near you is all I desire.
All that I want is to be here beside you.
All that I need is right here in my arms.
All that I want is to know that you love me
And this will be my finest Christmas time.
All that I want is to be here beside you.
All that I need is right here in my arms.
All that I want is to know that you love me
And this will be my finest Christmas time.

That chorus is a fine reminder to all of us about what’s important.

We had a video gift exchange with Steve’s family this morning. It was a lot of fun. It will be more fun when we can get together again, but this was nice. I think we made Steve’s mom a little dizzy with all the moving cameras, but even she had fun. This afternoon, I think we’ll be zooming with my family, right after one of the nephews wakes up from a nap.

Everybody, find some way to enjoy this Christmas if you can.

  1. This definitely isn’t a normal Christmas, but honestly, I have to say I’ve enjoyed it so far. My point about the technology from the other day definitely stands today. I hope we never have to do things this way again, but I’m so glad that we’re able to.
