I’m sure that robbing a grocery store is a real handful, but there have to be better ways of freeing up some hand space thansetting your gun on the counter while you shovel money out of the register.
The suspect showed Wilmer his handgun and the clerk threw money at him.
“It just shocked me,” said Wilmer. “I didn’t know what to do. I just backed up and let him get at it.”
As the suspect was grabbing as much money as he could, Wilmer reached down to dial 911. Wilmer said she then noticed the suspect had placed the pistol on the counter.
“As soon as I noticed that’s when I picked it up,” she said. “He ran fast. He ran out of his shoe.” Police later found the suspect’s tennis shoe near the store’s front door.
Wilmer is Red Dot Grocery employee April Wilmer, the one who was smart enough to grab the gun and scare the bejesus out of our hero.
The suspect, meanwhile, did get away with some money and has still not been located. It seems however that it’s only a matter of time before he’s caught, since it sounds like most of the folks working at the store think they know who he is.
