What Do Your Tweets Say About The Kind Of Person You Are?

Here’s something kind of fun to waste a few minutes on. Actually scratch that, I’m sure I could waste far more than a few minutes on AnalyzeWords punching people into this thing and seeing if it comes back with anything close to what I think of them.

What does AnalyzeWords do?
AnalyzeWords helps reveal your personality by looking at how you use words. It is based on good scientific research connecting word use to who people are. So go to town – enter your Twitter name or the handles of friends, lovers, or Hollywood celebrities to learn about their emotions, social styles, and the ways they think.

Naturally I had to punch @VC_Steve into it and see what it came back with. It’s kind of a mixed bag at least given what I think of myself, but I agreed with it more than I thought I might.

Emotionally it found me to be mostly upbeat, which is true. It also says I don’t tend to worry much. I don’t, but I probably worry more than it thinks. I tend to do most of my hardcore worrying in private. It also says I’m not very angry, which again is pretty accurate, sometimes to a fault if we’re being completely honest. Apparently I’m just as depressed as your average person, which I don’t know how to feel about. It looks at mostly recent tweets and we did just have an ice storm here, so there’s that. Winter weather does piss me off and bring me down to an amazing and perhaps unhealthy degree sometimes, but if I’m that upbeat and not angry, it seems odd that my depression score isn’t lower. I can only think of two times when I would have classified myself as anything close to depressed, and neither of them are all that recent.

It also tries to figure out what kind of person you are socially. I’m apparently pretty plugged in, which I’m assuming has something to do with time spent communicating via gadgets. I’m not sure how useful a stat this is though because you’re using Twitter to figure it out, and Twitter’s entire life hinges on people using gadgets to communicate. I’m also very personable, which I think is true. But along with my personableness I also scored somewhat high as arrogant and distant. Distant sure, but I don’t buy arrogant. Just because I’m smarter than a lot of people doesn’t mean I’m arrogant. They even have a category they call “Spacy/Valley girl,” on which I scored average. I don’t know how they arrived at this conclusion, but whatever.

And finally, what kind of thinker am I? Analytic, according to this. I do tend to pick things apart to make sense or fun of them, so right on, gimmicky personality test thingie. I’m also not one to live in the moment, which I guess is true if the moment doesn’t call for picking things apart on the fly. I’m a pretty easygoing guy, but I do like to have at least a shred of a plan before I do things.

If you’re interested, here’s a look at the science behind how this works. Believe it or not, it sounds like there is actually some science going on here.

have fun, and feel free to let me know how you did.
