If you were one of those who followed my year in the wrestling prediction contest, you’re well aware that my prognostication abilities aren’t always the best. but before the Jays Mariners series started, I made a prediction to the Shoe Thief. I told him that not only would Jose Bautista hit his 50th home run this week, but he’d be nice enough to give old Shoe some time to worry about it.
“He’ll hit the homer off of Felix Hernandez on Thursday,” I said.
And guess what just happened. If you said Jose Bautista came up in the bottom of the 1st inning and hit number 50 off of Felix Hernandez, you win! And you’re probably a lot happier about it than our footwear lifting friend, because unlike him, you don’t have tokiss a dude because you doubted that dude’s months old proclamation.
And Mr. thief, if you’re reading this, yes, that voicemail with all the kissy noises in it is indeed from Carin and I. There’s no need to thank us, we’re just nice people like that.
On a serious note, congrats, Jose! You’ve had a hell of a season in every possible way, and you’ve come a long way from the guy who once played on 5 teams in the space of a year to what you are now. Things like what you’ve done this year are why I still enjoy watching sports. I hope you’re a Blue Jay for years to come.
