Another good election reaction video, this one from the Daily Show.
The question that really needs asking isn’t why Harris lost, it’s why Trump won.
And a related one that I’ve been thinking about. What, to a 2024 Trump voter, would have been too far? I have my political preferences and dislikes just as anyone else does, but if Justin Trudeau or Jagmeet Singh did even the tiniest fraction of what Trump has said and done in the last decade I’d have no choice but to at least consider the possibility that maybe this Poilievre guy might not be so bad. Ultimately I’d probably plunk a vote down on some independent or maybe John Turmel if I’m in the mood to screw up a record, but I would have to think about it. Point is that there should be no political identity or affiliation in any place that chooses to think of itself as a normal ass country that should excuse or endorse any of this.
Yup. As a woman, I am deeply distressed. I’ve been telling you guys this since 2016 when a certain person tried to convince me this could never possibly happen. Now it’s happened twice and I don’t even know. Honestly, right now the best medication I can offer is for you and Karen to seriously go and get together after you’ve had dinner tonight and just listen from start to finish two songs in the key of life by Stevie Wonder. Trust me it helps. Pay attention to the lyrics. Cry liberally. Also celebrate liberally. Support your women and LGBTQ people. Be kind to each other. You guys are already doing most of those things so you’ve pretty much got this.
I’m not wrong about these things often, but yup, I sure was in 2016. Sorry about that. And you know what? I was this year too. Not because I didn’t think he could win, but because I didn’t think that if he did it would be as convincing as it was. It’s hard to know what normal even is anymore.
