I woke up in the middle of the night to an infomercial for this DVD set called Your Baby Can Read! They were charging upwards of $200 for this set of DVD’s and cards that you could use to start teaching your baby, as in under a year old, to read. I remember thinking “What a crock,” and going to bed.
Why do people need to buy products to help their kids learn about letters and numbers? Why not just talk to your kid, point at stuff, ya know, do stuff with your kid?
And shouldn’t people know that plunking their kids in front of a TV when they’re not even 1 is a bad idea? Can you say Baby Einstein?
I googled this set just to see what I could find. I was amazed by two things. First, a lot of parents are contemplating getting it, and are asking forums. Eek. Thankfully they are getting a lot of sensible responses. Second, some people actually like this thing!
I really don’t know what else to say except I’m scared. If I had a baby, I think I could find a better use for $200 and still get him to have fun with letters and numbers.
