I know exactly who you’re talking about. And my aunt does the same thing. And I think for a bit, my cousin would too when he was wee, but I think someone fixed him up.
I wish I could remember how he said milkshake. Did he pronounce it right like the joke in this thing? I need to trick him into saying it sometime because it’s driving me nuts now.
Oooooo Barb knows why this is a thing! Id it too. So does Alan! So u’s to do with the great Scottish vowel shift. For some strange reason the Scots said their i’s as short e’s. A bunch of our ancestors came from there and brought that silly vowel shift, with that work in particular, over here.
